Open Field
The Caravan Club is a series of informal residencies hosted by Sarah Kenchington and Belinda Gilbert Scott in a small caravan site at Claylands farm near Balfron. Over the past few years writers, scientists, artists, musicians and hairdressers have all visited for a fresh-air fortnight and have spent time in the caravans to make new work, to think, or just to escape the confines of the city for a while. They have also played host to several caravan club cabaret evenings. Here, the emphasis has been on performance and experimentation; everyone must contribute something - but this is a far less daunting prospect in such a friendly, encouraging and mutually supportive environment.'Open Field', an exhibition at the CCA, Glasgow brings together individuals involved in the first year of caravan club residencies. Such a diverse group of people exhibiting under one roof is sure to make for an interesting show. Exhibition runs 22nd Nov 2008 - 10th January 2009.
For this exhibition Vernon & Burns have created a radio play to be performed before a live audience - 'Lend me your eyes and I'll lend you my ears'. The Performance takes place on the 28th November in CCA 5 with a follow-up radio broadcast shortly after.
Vernon & Burns have also have produced a new CD for Open Field - 'Sing it Softly to the Pebbles' which also features several other artists involved with the exhibition. See 'Sing it Softly to the Pebbles' page for more details:
